More Than Rest: Your Soul Needs a Reset

Taking a Step Back for the Big Picture

If you’ve ever felt drained by the hustle of life, you’re not alone.

The balance between faith and rest can be challenging, but it’s important to pause and reflect on how we’re pacing ourselves.

It may just be time for a reset in your life.

Prefer to listen?

That was me late last year. I had planned to keep up with this blog, my writing, and all the creative projects I love. But somewhere along the way, I noticed a quiet distance from God.

The end-of-year rush revealed that I was getting lost in the hustle and bustle.

Do you ever feel like that?

You’re doing all the right things: serving, showing up, staying committed.

But deep down, you feel it: you’re tired, not just in your body, but in your soul.

The good things aren’t filling you like they used to. You’re starting to drift—not in disobedience, but in distraction.

What I thought would be a short pause turned into five months of silence, slowness, and soul-searching. My rest had officially turned into a reset.

And it’s been life-giving.

After praying about what’s next, I have decided to ease back in, not with pressure or perfection but with intention.

Jesus was never in a hurry, even though He had more to do than anyone who ever lived.

He paused for people, made time for solitude, and always moved in step with the Father.

If we want to walk with Him, we can’t rush ahead. We need to move at His pace—one step at a time.

So… how do you know if you need a reset?

Sometimes, you don’t just need a nap or a day off. You need a heart check.

Here are a few signs you may need a reset, not just rest:

  • You’ve started performing instead of abiding.
  • You feel spiritually dry, even while doing “spiritual” things.
  • You’re easily irritated, distracted, or disconnected.
  • You’ve lost sight of why you started in the first place.
  • You’re doing good things but drifting from the best thing—God’s presence.

Rest is about catching your breath.

Reset is about re-centering your purpose.

How to Begin a Spiritual Reset: 5 Simple First Steps

  1. Pause to reflect:
Turn down the noise. Sit with God. Ask Him to show you where you’ve drifted.
  2. Name the misalignment:
Be honest about where your pace or priorities have gone off track.
  3. Invite God to realign you:
Ask Him to reset your heart and reorder your days.
  4. Simplify:
Say no to what’s draining you—even if it’s good. Make space to be present again.
  5. Start walking, not running:
You don’t need to move fast. Just stay faithful.

Take a moment to ask:
Lord, what are You inviting me to lay down—and what are You asking me to pick back up with You?

Scripture for Reflection

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me, and you’ll recover your life… Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.”

Matthew 11:28–30 (The Message)

A Simple Prayer for Reset

Lord,

Help me to slow down and return to You.

Reset my pace to match Yours—unhurried, present, and full of grace.

Show me where I’ve drifted, and bring me back.

I don’t want to just do things for You—I want to do them with You.

In Jesus’s Name,

Amen.
